In the nail salon, you come into contact with a lot of people every day. With the Coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak, it is important that you avoid any lapses in hygiene. As a nail tech, you already have high sanitation standards, but now is the time to up the ante - for both your sake and your client’s. You want to make sure that your clients feel absolutely safe and protected in your capable hands. As the public is becoming increasingly concerned about the virus, it is important to take proactive steps to ensure the safety of your staff and clients.

1. Sanitize. Disinfect. Sanitize.

Nail techs go through extensive training on proper sanitation techniques. You already know exactly what to do – how to sanitize and disinfect your tools and work space. Make sure to throw away all disposable supplies in a closed waste basket and empty this bin regularly.

2. Urge clients and staff to reschedule if they are feeling sick

If your client or staff member is experiencing any flu-like symptoms, such as coughing, fever, a runny nose or shortness of breath, encourage them to stay at home and rather reschedule.

3. Keep hand sanitizer freely available for your clients and staff to use

This will show your client that you have taken every precaution possible and keep them at ease. Your staff and clients will be able to sanitize as often as will make them feel comfortable.

4. Do not hug or shake the hands of your clients

This may seem like a tough task to implement – after all, your clients have become like family. Make sure to inform them that this is for both their safety and your own.

5. Do not panic or spend time talking about your worries of the Coronavirus to your clients

Your clients book their appointments with you to relax and escape.

6. Wear a mask and gloves

Respiratory masks are best at filtering out droplets in the air that might contain the virus. As you would wear a mask to avoid inhaling all of the dust from filing (and that occasional speck of glitter), so you should continue to do so. Wearing gloves provides an extra level of sanitation.

7. Disinfect commonly used areas

Disinfect all areas that your clients may touch, such as doorknobs, bathrooms, card machines etc. Do this regularly throughout the day, preferably after every client. The safety of your clients and staff is your top priority. Make sure that you educate your staff on disinfection and sanitation procedures.
